BOTOX®
Aging is a complex
process which encompasses skin care, environment, stress,
and sun exposure. Wrinkles form due to a combination
of multiple factors. The lines that form on your face
over time are a combination of skin aging, collagen
depletion, and muscle movement. Facial expression can
lead to deepening of “frown lines” between
your eyes, or “smile lines” those crow’s
feet that you aren’t smiling about.
BOTOX® cosmetic is a purified
protein that is injected into the muscles underlying
these areas to help smooth and diminish the appearance
of the wrinkles to create a more relaxed and youthful
appearance.
We know that facial expression is important in our
communication and interactions. BOTOX® Cosmetic
is injected by Dr. Lynore Martinez, who has been trained
in the administration and nuances of BOTOX Cosmetic
in order to artistically enhance your youthful appearance
without compromising your facial expressions.
BOTOX® cosmetic is injected in a series every 4 to
6 month in order to maintain your desired results.
The injections are typically very well tolerated with
a minimum of discomfort after ice application to the
injection area. Side effects can include bruising at
the injection site and possibly headache.
The most common sites for treatment are the frown
lines between the eyes, forehead lines, and laugh lines
around the eyes (or crow’s feet). Because the
muscles are relaxed in the area of BOTOX® injection,
BOTOX may actually prevent new lines and wrinkles from
forming. |
Fillers
(Juvederm and Restylane)
Cosmetic fillers are used to treat the deeper skin
lines that form over time due to loss of collagen in
the skin. The easiest way for you to determine whether
you need a filler such as Juvederm or Restylane,
or BOTOX® cosmetic, is to examine the skin line when
you are not making any expression or moving any facial
muscles. BOTOX cosmetic will affect “dynamic” wrinkles,
or lines that form when you are moving facial muscles.
Juvederm and Restylane are
indicated for facial lines that are present when your
facial muscles are not in movement and are relaxed.
Typically, these are the nasiolabial folds, or the
skin line that deepens as we age between the lateral
nose and corners of your mouth, and “marionette
lines” the deeper lines that pull the lateral
edges of the mouth downward. Sometimes, a frown line
between the eyes has deepened to the point that it
is present without any facial expression, these are
also treated with fillers.
Juvederm and Restylane are also indicated to create
additional fullness to the lip area which can minimize
fine vertical lines that form around the lips with
aging.
Juvederm and Restylane are injected after either a
topical anesthetic or dental block has been applied
to the area. Side effects from filler injections include
discomfort at the injection sites and bruising. |
