How does laser hair reduction work?
At Eden Medispa, we use the Lightsheer ET Diode laser
for permanent hair reduction. Laser light energy is
attracted to the pigment or color of the hair in the
hair follicle. The laser handpiece is applied to the
skin overlying the hair follicle and the laser light
energy transmits heat to the hair follicle to disrupt
future hair growth. The Lightsheer Diode laser has
a cooling sapphire tip incorporated into the handpiece
that will cool the surrounding skin in order to minimize
the discomfort associated with treatment. |

Hair grows in cycles: anagen, telogen and catagen.
Anagen is the actively growing phase and is the phase
during which hair has the most pigment or color and
is most affected by the laser light treatment. At any
one time, only about 20 to 30% of the hair in any one
area is in the anagen, or actively growing, phase.
This means that in order to have optimal hair reduction,
multiple treatments are required to treat the hair
that is moving into the actively growing phase to achieve
the results desired. We recommend a minimum of five
treatments and treatments are performed at 6 to 8 week
intervals. We usually ask that you call and schedule
an appointment for treatment when you start seeing
hair regrow into the area. Treatments can be purchased
singly or in a package of five for significant savings.

Since the laser light
energy is attracted to the pigment or color of the
hair, white, red, and light blonde hair that have minimal
pigment, cannot be treated adequately with the laser.
Laser treatments require that the target of the hair
follicle is intact, thus, prior to laser hair reduction,
you should not pluck out the hair follicles, wax, or
use depilatories in the treatment area. You will be
instructed to shave the treatment area 24 hours prior
to your laser treatment. In addition, the laser is
attracted to the pigment in the skin as well, which
means that hair removal cannot be performed on tanned
skin.
